Barberitos Asheville Donates to Local Food Bank

The Barberitos in Asheville, NC hosted a fun charity event this weekend called “Eat, Rattle, and Roll.” At this event, there was live music played by one of the Barberitos team members, half price burritos, and $1 beer. Donations were given to benefit the Manna Foodbank in Asheville. Barberitos matched the amount of all the donations collected. Bigger than a Burrito: Barberitos Macon Celebrates its First Year with a Bang

In honor of its first year in business, the store donated $2000, all of its daily sales, on Tuesday to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Owners Philip and Martin Kohnen have made it a priority to have a continuously ongoing relationship with the MDA. The Macon and Milledgeville locations, both owned by the Kohnens, participate in MDA events a few times every year. In fact, Barberitos supported the “J Walkers” in “Make a Muscle,” the annual Macon MDA Muscle Walk at the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds on March 9th. The softball team is part of a league that plays at the Eastman Softball Complex in Kingsport, TN. Barberitos Donates Racing Bicycle to Lupus Supporter, Tyler Finger

Barberitos recently hosted a spirit day on February 11th at the Athens Eastside Barberitos for Tyler Finger, a local college student who, once challenged by his Lupus diagnosis, now strives to raise money to help others with Lupus. Along with Barberitos, who donated a racing bike, Tyler and his cause are also sponsored by Georgia Cycle Sport. With the donation from the spirit day at Barberitos, Tyler picked out and purchased the bike at Georgia Cycle Sport that he’ll ride to raise money for Lupus in upcoming cycling events. Barberitos has begun a campaign called “Bigger than a Burrito,” which highlights the community involvement and philanthropy of Barberitos locations. As such, Barberitos strives to support its local heroes. 20-year-old, Tyler Finger of Athens has battled Lupus, a rare auto-immune disease, since the age of 8. Tyler has always been told he’s in that 1%. Fourteen years later, he is still tackling his disease one day at a time. Tyler has made it much further than was ever expected. “God has brought me all the way through it,” say Tyler, “With Him, anything is possible.” Tyler has started a fundraiser called “i-BikeReal” and has raised enough money to buy a bicycle that he can ride in one of the annual Twilight races, the Twilight Gambler on April 27th, 2013. He will be riding 100 kilometers to support his cause: Lupus. He will raise money during his race to donate to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This is just the beginning- Tyler plans to continue raising money in the future for the CHOA Lupus Fund.
